This article discusses the growing career field of Information Technology. It cites a Bureau of Labor Statics report that jobs in computer software engineering will grow by 32% by 2018. Associated specialties include programming, network and website administration, information security, and game design. All of these positions require technical education with typically, an undergraduate degree with a solid foundation in computer science and math. In fact, sixty-five percent of respondents to a PayScale.com survey rated the skills sets they learned in their CIS or MIS-related degrees as either “important” or “very important.” The article also listed job descriptions typical for a career in IT. Entry-level positions, for example, include various programming assignments. The next career step includes senior developer or project manager. Finally, a hard working IT professional dedicated to staying on top of current technology can serve in the role of architect, planning and testing new technologies and upgrades.
